GRANTS, N.M. Exactly a month apart from the first robbery, Wells Fargo on First Street in Grants, New Mexico, has been robbed. The robbery occurred on June 6 at 2:22 p.m., the bandit pulled a handgun and demanded money from the bank teller. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has called the robber, the “Black Cap Bandit.”

The Black Cap Bandit is believed to be Native American, in his mid-20s, and is between 5’7”and 5’9”. He is approximately 160 pounds, he was wearing a black baseball cap with an unidentified logo on the front, a black hooded sweater, a lightcolored surgical mask, and black shoes. The bandit managed to get away with an undisclosed amount of money. The FBI and Grants Police Department are actively searching for this bandit. Grants Police Department came out in force to search for the suspect. Grants Police Department searched several buildings and restaurants to ensure the safety of employees and residents at establishments near the Riverwalk Park. Law enforcement also canvassed the areas near Wells Fargo, but were unable to locate the suspect as of press time.

According to information the Cibola Citizen was able to gather from the police scanners, the suspect is a man who was dressed in a black hoodie. It does not appear that this robbery is connected with the Red Shoe Robber, who attacked the same bank on May 7.

The use of a firearm or explosive, even if they are fake, makes a bank robbery punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Anyone with information on this robbery is asked to call the FBI at 505-889-1300.
