Cibola Marijuana Sales in July

GRANTS, N.M. – Marijuana sales continue to generate money for Cibola County, New Mexico. The City of Grants houses two of the largest marijuana dispensaries in the county, the Village of Milan does not have any registered dispensaries, all of the money spent on marijuana in this report comes from sales in Grants. The sale and use of marijuana has created a new economy within Cibola that is generating tax revenue for the City of Grants. In just the month of July, New Mexicans spent $40,305,131.90 on marijuana. There were $16,813,947.35 worth of medicinal sales, and $23,491,184.55 worth of recreational sales. “These numbers show that the impressive sales generated in the first month of legalized recreational cannabis sales were no fluke – and this is only the beginning,” New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said. “We’ve established a new industry that is already generating millions of dollars in local and state revenue and will continue to generate millions more in economic activity across the state, creating thousands of jobs for New Mexicans in communities both small and large” In the City of Grants alone, residents spent a total of $357,795.11 on marijuana. $165,904.59 were spent on medicinal marijuana products, while $191,890.52 was spent on recreational marijuana products.

This constitutes a massive increase in recreational marijuana spending for Cibola County. From June, Cibola spent less on medicinal marijuana products $3,564.02 less. This decrease in medicinal spending is evened out by the massive increase in recreational spending. July saw an increase of $30,980.48 in recreational spending over the month of June.

Marijuana sales in July topped sales in every city and every county in New Mexico since the drug became legal in April. Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Hobbs, and Rio Rancho saw the highest sales of marijuana in July. The New Mexico Cannabis Control Division releases these statistics monthly to track spending on marijuana. The Cannabis Control Division is managed by the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Division. “The New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department, which houses the Cannabis Control Division, regulates more than 500,000 individuals and businesses in 35 industries, professions, and trades across the state. Our goal is to assure that New Mexicans receive quality services from qualified individuals and businesses while also ensuring a fair and prompt administrative process. Our priority is your protection,” NMRLD said in a statement.
