GRANTS, N.M. – Heartbreak led to a violent attack at the Riverwalk Amphitheater in Grants, New Mexico. Grants police officers were dispatched to the Riverwalk at 7:35 p.m. on October 23 for a man that was bleeding from his neck. The reporting call informed the Cibola Regional Dispatch that a man had his neck cut at the park, other details were murky as police officers arrived on the scene. Officers arrested Roxanne Lewis for the bloody attack, as of press time she was being held at the Cibola County Correctional Center in Milan, N.M., all people are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
GPD Sergeant Benjamin Throne arrived on scene and immediately began to provide emergency medical care to the man whose neck had been cut. Officer Kyle Saavedra arrived at the park and went to speak with a woman who, according to eyewitnesses, saw as she allegedly slashed the neck of the victim.
According to a police report, the victim and Lewis were on a date to the amphitheater. There was a brisk breeze in the air when the two went to the park, they were joking, laughing, and enjoying the day. The two ordered a pizza, and when it arrived at the park they went to sit down to eat. This is where the date took a turn.
While sitting to eat, the victim informed Lewis that he no longer wanted to be in a relationship with her. According to the police report, Lewis wrapped her arm around the victim and pulled a knife from her chest area, allegedly saying that the victim should know what to expect next. The report states that she took the knife and began putting it in and out of holes in the table before allegedly pulling the knife from the table and slashing the victim’s neck.
According to the police report, several witnesses saw when the attack happened. After being read her rights, Lewis invoked her right to remain silent and refused to speak with law enforcement without a lawyer.
The victim was rushed to Cibola General Hospital where he was patched up and survived the attack. Lewis was arrested and booked at the CCCC in Milan, N.M. In the United States judicial system, all people are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
