GRANTS, N.M. —

The Grants Recreation Department has facilitated a number of events over the past few years that have been for good causes but also incorporate fun activities. One specific activity that the department often runs with is the Fun Run/Walk/Bike event. The department will be putting on this kind of event once again, but they are partnering with PMS’s Cibola Home Visiting Program to do so. PMS (Presbyterian Medical Services) is an organization that provides a number of health and human services to communities across New Mexico. PMS serves New Mexico communities with over 100 locations across the state, and Cibola County is one of those communities. According to their website, some of the various services that PMS offers are medical care, behavioral health, dentistry, early childhood services, senior services, family counseling, and more.

“Our services strengthen the fabric of our New Mexico communities by offering many health and social services to people of all backgrounds,” writes the PMS website, at https://www.pmsnm.org.

There are three locations where PMS services can be accessed in Cibola County. The first is the PMS Grants Family Health Center, located at 1217 Bonita Avenue, Grants, NM. The center is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and they can be reached at 505-287-2958. This location specializes in medical care.

The second location is the PMS Grants Family Counseling center, located at 1040 Redondo Road, Grants, NM. This location specializes in counseling services and is open Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. This location can be reached at 505-876-1890.

The third location is not a PMS location, but rather a location that houses one of PMS’s programs. The Cibola County Home Visiting Program is located at 551 Washington Avenue, Grants, NM, which is where the Grants Recreation Center, also known as Future Foundations Family Center, is located. According to https://unmhealth.org/services/development-disabilities/programs/other-disability-resources/information-network/-files/home-visiting-programs-for-new-and-expecting-families.pdf, the program provides home visits for all parents, teens, and adoptive parents that “focus on the parent-child relationship to support optimal development and social-emotional health,” as well as provide “assistance with community resources.” There are no first-time parent requirements, and parents can enroll in the program with children prenatal to five years old. The contact number to reach the center and this program is 505-285-3542. The center is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

To do something positive for the Grants-Cibola County community, Grants Recreation is partnering with PMS’s Cibola Home Visiting Program to host a fun event and collect donations of diapers for the families that this program services. The event has been titled the “June Diaper Dash” and it will include walking, running, and biking activities. The event is going to be held on Saturday, June 25, and the registration fee for the event is one dollar, plus one package of diapers. Any size will be accepted.

A five-kilometer walk will begin at the Grants Recreation Center at 551 Washington Avenue at 7:30 a.m. A five-kilometer run will follow at 7:40 a.m., and lastly, a 10-kilometer biking portion will begin at 7:45 a.m.

Those interested in participating in this event can register online at https://www.webscorer.com/register?raceid=279405 Registration closes on Thursday, June 23, at 11:59 p.m. According to the Grants Recreation Department, if there are community members who cannot participate in the event, but would still like to donate diapers, they are encouraged to do so by dropping them off at the Grants Recreation Center (Future Family Foundations Center). The department thanks the community for their donations and is excited to team up with PMS’s Cibola Home Visiting to collect as many diapers as possible for the parents, children, and families of Cibola.
