GRANTS, NM – On May 1, Grants Police Department was dispatched to the 1400 block of Roosevelt Avenue in reference to a “physical disturbance” according to an arrest report. Police arrested 55-year-old Betty Watson of Grants for Battery Against a Household Member.

When driving to the home where the disturbance allegedly took place, officers were alerted that the irate occupant who caused the incident was named Betty Watson, and she had an undisclosed number of active warrants out of municipal court.

Officers arrived on scene where they met four individuals, one of whom had visible dried blood on his mouth and nose. After speaking with the witnesses, officers placed Watson in handcuffs and placed her in a patrol car so they could continue interviews.

Through the course of investigating the alleged crime, officers learned that the victim, a witness, and Watson had spent their day at the laundromat, selling baked goods. Through the course of their day the group was drinking alcohol; according to the report, in a witness testimony, Watson would go out the back door to take shots regularly. When the group returned home, Watson became aggressive, arguing with the victim before allegedly punching him in the face, causing his nose to bleed. The victim and witnesses refused medical attention offered by law enforcement.

According to the report, Watson had slow and slurred speech, blood shot eyes, and smelled of “an intoxicating beverage”. The report states that officers asked Watson what she had to drink, with her replying that she had two pints of vodka and an undisclosed amount of Twisted Tea.

Grants Police Officers took Watson to Cibola General Hospital to be medically cleared. After experts cleared her, Watson was booked at the Cibola County Correctional Center in Milan without further incident.
