GRANTS, N.M. – The case against Jaquari Hezakiyah Porter, the suspect involved in the February 1 officer-involved shooting on I-40, has progressed to district court following multiple delays in magistrate court proceedings.

Porter, 24, faces six felony charges, including assault with intent to commit a violent felony on a peace officer, aggravated assault upon a peace officer with a deadly weapon, aggravated fleeing from law enforcement, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

His first scheduled court appearance on February 21 was postponed due to transport issues. The hearing was rescheduled for February 27 in Grants Magistrate Court before Judge Johnny Valdez.

However, the case has since been transferred to district court, where it is now under Judge Amanda Sanchez Villalobos. A pretrial detention hearing and preliminary hearing have been requested as of February 21.
