GRANTS N.M.- According to the president of the Cibola Trail Alliance, Chad Gaines, the Lobo Canyon Trail is a project being worked on by volunteers.

The most rewarding part of this project for him is the bond that grows between the people who share their time on the project as well as seeing it slowly come together. This project had been an idea in the works for the past 12 years until this past summer.

The trail digging has come about one and three quarters of a mile since mid-July with 560 volunteer hours dedicated so far. The estimated time to its completion is now two years. Previously the volunteers would come every week to work on the trail. The project will be changing the days its volunteers will work however to twice a month on a weekend instead of every Thursday. This information will also be available as they update it at the CTA website, cibolatrails. org under events.

The Cibola Trail Alliance always accepts new volunteers who would like to contribute to the project. Simply show up at the meeting time at the Coal Mine Campground and you can join them in their work. CTA partners with the Mt. Taylor Ranger District and must follow all safety procedures while out on the trail. Volunteers must wear closed toe shoes, a long sleeve shirt, and long pants. They supply hard hats and gloves, but recommend that you bring your own if you have them. Anyone interested can also join their email list. Message them at info@cibolatrails.org.
