MILAN, NM – On August 5 at approximately 5:21 p.m. Milan Police officers received a call regarding a possible battery in progress. The incident involved Jillian Alvarez and her significant other. Jillian Alvarez was later arrested on charges of battery of a household member.

When officers arrived at the scene, they first made contact with Alvarez. She explained that her and her significant other were arguing for “no reason.” Alvarez also said that she had Jello shots before her significant other arrived. She went on to say that during the argument, her significant other “whacked her” and later said that they punched her. When officers asked what caused the incident with the table, Alvarez said that officers wouldn’t believe her and the significant other told her the police wouldn’t believe her. Alvarez finally said that she first pushed the table towards Maestas and then he hit her. Officers photographed a red mark on Alvarez’s arm that she said was from her significant other punching her, she said she was not hit anywhere else.

Officers then made contact with the significant other. Officers photographed a scratch that was on his arm. The significant other explained that they were sitting on the couch when Alvarez began to yell at them. The significant other alleged that she then picked up the side table and hit him with it and he blocked it with his arm. The significant other then said that they got up and walked to the front door and called the police, that was when Alvarez then picked up the table and threw it at them. When asked whether or not they punched Alvarez, they replied that they hadn’t. The significant other told officers they think the reason Alvarez had a mark on her arm was because she pushed the table back towards her when she tried to hit them. There was no visible redness on Maestas’s hands. While Pacheco was speaking with the significant other, Alvarez came out of her room and started to yell that she wanted to go to jail.

Alvarez then came out of her room and began to wash dishes. Officers then had to explain to her that she needed her to stay in her room while they were speaking to the significant other. Alvarez refused to return to her room, so officers informed her that if she did not go to her room then she would be placed in handcuffs and she would have to wait in the police unit until they finished interviewing her significant other. Alvarez refused again to return to her room. Officers then attempted to place her in handcuffs, but she pulled away. Officers then informed her that she would be under arrest for battery on a household member, and she eventually complied. While escorting her to the police unit, Alvarez then began to pull away from officers and move towards her significant other. She then began yelling at the officers and her significant other. Officers called for assistance, while waiting for another officer, Alvarez continued to pull away and attempted to move towards her significant other. Additional officers arrived and Alvarez calmed down. She began to walk with officers to the police unit. While walking, she again attempted to pull away. Two Milan Police Department officers attempted to get her leg into the unit, but she refused. Finally, she agreed and then began to yell once her leg was in the car.

Alvarez was then transported to Cibola County Correctional Center in Milan. While enroute to Core Civic, Jillian said she would kill herself in the jail. Upon arrival, the nurse at Core Civic refused to accept her into the jail. She was then transported to Cibola General Hospital by Milan officers. She advised medical staff at Cibola General she was going to kill herself and was admitted into the hospital. She was released from the hospital and medically cleared and transported back to CCCC for holding.
