Adult Education Successes at NMSU-Grants

By: Christy Lochrie, NMSU-Grants Adult Education Program Manager Destiny Apodaca has a big, bright smile and the dreams to match. The 22-year-old San Rafael woman just started her first semester at New Mexico State University, Grants, where she’s studying to earn a degree in education. When she finishes, she hopes to put her education to work as a teaching assistant, working with youngsters, or those “littles.” “I just love their imaginations,” Apodaca said with a grin. But for Apodaca, it was a hard-fought win, entering her first semester of college. She dropped out of high school in her junior year. It wasn’t a decision she took lightly. She wanted to continue, but her body wouldn’t cooperate. Scoliosis, a part of other medical issues that Apodaca faces, had curved her spine and made the daily rigors of attending high school debilitating for her.

Request for Expression of Interest Released by The Western Interstate Hydrogen Hub Coalition

The Request for Expression of Interest will allow stakeholders to inform the development of the regional hydrogen hub in the four-state region Press Release SANTA FE – As efforts to establish a regional hydrogen hub in the Intermountain West continue, the Western Inter-States Hydrogen Hub (WISHH) coalition released a Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) Thursday, August 25 to solicit input from key stakeholders. The RFEI provides an avenue for stakeholders such as industry leaders, elected officials, community groups, tribes, and the general public to provide vital input in creating a regional clean hydrogen hub across Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.

Cibola County’s load of active COVID-19 cases is below 400 cases. August began the month with 491 active cases, September began with 384.

Rugged West 2022

The Grants-Cibola County Chamber of Commerce put on the Rugged West Labor Day event this past weekend, bringing a joyous time to all in Cibola County, and attracting a number of tourists to come enjoy Cibola County. Executive Director Brenda Curtright thanked all of her board members and volunteers for helping to put on the project, and she thanked all of the vendors for helping to support the event and the local economy.

Temporary Trail Closures in Zuni Mountains

Affected trails include Y2K, Strawberry Canyon, Mike’s Rippin’ and a Portion of Tampico Springs Trails Diego Lopez, Reporter GRANTS, NM – Tree thinning activities will be taking place in the Zuni Mountains over the next several months. These activities will limit the public’s ability to recreate in the forest, this is being done to protect the public and the forest.
