School Board Discusses Academics and Safety

GRANTS, N.M. – The Grants Cibola County School Board met on September 6 for its regularly scheduled meeting. On the agenda were three presentations to come before the board. The first was a School Site Presentation for Grants High School introduced by Principal Lane Widner. The second was Student Performance Data introduced by the Academics Services. The third was District Safety and Security introduced by the GCCS Safety and Security Team. For the first presentation, the principal of Grants High School, Lane Widner, came before the board to give an overview of the happenings and beginning of the year activities going on for the students to be a part of. Widner then introduced the board to the staff who would be representing the events taking place.

Worms Infesting Cibola Trees Pose No Threat

GRANTS, N.M. – Recently, a reader sent a photo of their tree which had some strange webbing wrapped around some of the branches. The tree appeared to be dying from the bug infestation, and the mass of webbing left neighbors asking, “How many spiders does it take to create that?” The answer was that no spiders created that, instead, worms did. New Mexico State University – Grants branch Extension Agent Chase Elkins said that the worms appeared to be Bag or Fall Worms. These creatures are harmless to the tree, arriving with the changing season to feast on dying leaves, largely leaving the wood alone.

Cannabis Sales in Grants Through August

Diego Lopez, Reporter The State of New Mexico sold over $40 million worth of marijuana in the month of August. This is more than the state spent on marijuana in July, when New Mexicans spent nearly $38 million.
