CITY OF GRANTS, N.M. – Between July 1, 2020 and November 12, 2020 the current Grants City council held a meeting where they voted to file a lawsuit against Grants Mayor Martin “Modey” Hicks that was never published and the public was not invited to. According to New Mexico State Statute 10-15-1, The Open Meetings Act, any meeting of a government body where a majority of voting members will be present must be published in a newspaper or public building. Further, if said meeting will have a closed session, that closed session must be published in advance.

VILLAGE OF MILAN, N.M. — The Village of Milan Board of Trustees held a regular meeting on Thursday, February 17, at 5:30 p.m. All trustees were present, and the agenda was approved as presented. The board approved minutes for a Jan. 13 Board of Trustees special meeting, a Jan. 13 Board of Trustees workshop, a Jan. 20 Board of Trustees regular meeting, and a Jan. 20 Board of Trustees hearing.

Disgraced former correctional officer arraigned in federal court

MILAN, N.M. – Dennis Dean Garcia, a 34-year-old man from Grants, New Mexico, was seen in Federal Court on February 2 for allegedly smuggling 104 grams of methamphetamine into the Cibola County Correctional Center in Milan, N.M. Garcia was indicted for these charges on January 25. Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Goldaris is prosecuting this case; all people are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. According to court documents, Garcia had been employed at CCCC from January 2019 to February 2021.

Man arrested for bank robbery by CCSO to remain in prison

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A 57-year-old named Jason Scott Dean was arrested by the Cibola County Sheriff’s Office on September 23, 2021, and appeared in a federal court on February 4 where it was determined he will remain in custody for an alleged Albuquerque, New Mexico, bank robbery. All people are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If convicted in this alleged bank robbery, Dean will face up to 20 years in prison. According to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Dean allegedly robbed the Bank of the West on Central Avenue in Albuquerque, N.M. According to the United States Department of Justice, Dean allegedly handed a bank teller a plastic bag with a note demanding money. After the teller complied with the note, Dean allegedly fled Albuquerque, N.M. on an orange motorcycle heading West on Interstate 40.

Stolen political signs

GRANTS, N.M. – Two candidates that are running for public office in the City of Grants have had signs stolen from them and are seeking community assistance to bring the thefts to a halt. Mayor Pro tem Rick Lucero and Councilor Fred Rodarte, who are running for retention of a council seat and mayor respectively, have seen some mild vandalism. Certain signs of theirs have gone missing from across the city.

New Mexico Public Regulation Commission is committed to preserving New Mexico’s Clean Energy and Reliable Energy Future

SANTA FE, NM — Today at the agency’s weekly Open Meeting, the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (PRC) discussed dockets which were opened last summer and fall regarding potential issues with the reliability of electric service in New Mexico for 2022 and 2023. The Commission has been proactively monitoring this issue in order to provide assistance and direction to New Mexico’s i nvestor-owned utilities, and PRC took action today to consolidate those dockets to ensure a concentrated focus on finding solutions to resource concerns. At the meeting, Commissioners emphasized the importance of utility companies and government officials working together to “roll up our sleeves” and find both short-term and long-term solutions to preserve New Mexico’s commitment to the Energy Transition Act, in particular, and to keeping the lights on for all New Mexicans.
