CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – The Cibola County Board of Commissioners held their most recent regular commission meeting on Thursday, September 23 at 5 p.m. All commissioners were present, and the agenda was approved as presented. Minutes from an August 26 regular commission meeting and September 9 special commission meeting were also approved.

Village names new village manager

VILLAGE OF MILAN N.M. – At the Village of Milan Board of Trustees regular meeting held on Thursday, September 16 at 5 p.m., all trustees were present, and the agenda was approved as presented. During the ‘Citizens to Address the Board’ section, an official from Milan Elementary School invited the board to attend the school’s Color Fun Run that would be held on Sept. 30. The official also asked the board if the school may utilize Mirabal Park for the event, and if they may request for some officers from Milan Police Department to also attend and help with the event. These requests were approved.

The meeting took place on Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 12 - 2 pm (Mountain Time). Nearly 100 people gathered at First United Methodist Church in Gallup, NM, with equal numbers joining online, to hear from patients and health care workers about an emerging crisis at Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services.

VILLAGE OF MILAN, N.M. – On Tuesday, September 28, the Village of Milan Board of Trustees held a special meeting at 1 p.m. Agenda items included (a.) Approval of Agenda, (b). Resolution 2021-026 Authorizing and Approving Submission of a completed application for financial assistance and project approval to the New Mexico Finance Authority, (c.) Resolution 2021-027 Budget adjustment, (d.) Review and accept Capital Asset Listing for the Village of Milan, and (e.) Award Bid for Soccer Field Improvements.

MILAN, N.M. – On September 28 a woman in the Village of Milan arrived at her house to find it burgled, hundreds of rounds in ammu- nition were missing from her home. Noticing this, she contacted Milan Police Department who investigated the case and with quick turnaround was able to arrest Rosario Gonzales for the crime.

DUI Checkpoints

MILAN, N.M. – Local law enforcement agencies have been working on DUI/DWI compliance across the Village of Milan. The Milan Police Department has held multiple checkpoints in the village, working closely with the Cibola County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State Police.

Early voting begins

CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – Cibola prepares to return to the polls this November and elect new members to their school boards, water conservation boards, and lava and soil boards. The election season will see a challenger to the old guard of Cibola County’s school board, in a race which is likely to be the most hotly contested of the season.

Groundbreaking

Reporter GRANTS, N.M. – Bright Green Corporation had the groundbreaking on October 5 for their $300 million marijuana research and development facility, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, who was expected to attend, called ahead and informed Bright Green that complications in her schedule meant she was unable to attend. According to a press release provided to the Cibola Citizen, Bright Green also expected U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich who also did not show up. The crowd was filled with people, and few local elected officials.
