Firewood Permits for Sale

GRANTS, NM - The Mount Taylor Ranger District has begun to offer firewood permits. These can be purchased in person or over the phone by going to the Mount Taylor District Office at 1800 Lobo Canyon Road in Grants, NM, or over the phone at 505-287-8833. Firewood permits at Mount Taylor District Office, both in person and by phone, will be sold Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 12 noon and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm only. The permits may also be purchased at the Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands Supervisors Office at 2113 Osuna Rd. NE in Albuquerque, NM. The permits are being offered at a cost of $2 per cord. The minimum amount of purchase is $20. If you are interested in purchasing a firewood permit over the phone, you must pay with a credit or debit card. The permit, along with a map of the collection areas, will be mailed to you within 1 to 3 business days. All other types of transactions will be accepted in person only.

Alleged Serial Killer's Trial Postponed Again Due to Lack of Cooperation, Defense Claims

Diego Lopez, Reporter GRANTS, NM – Sean Michael Lannon is an alleged serial killer who went on a murder spree across the country, allegedly killing four people in New Mexico and one in New Jersey which he confessed to and is currently in prison for. His day in court at the Cibola County office of the 13th Judicial District Court rescheduled Lannon’s case for July 24.

Ty Detmer Dinner Fundraiser for the Rotary Backpack Program and DYLF

GRANTS, NM - The Ty Detmer Dinner was held on Friday June 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event was to fundraise for the Rotary Backpack Program and Ty Detmer Youth Football League. During the event there were raffles, autographs, and a live auction. Also, during the dinner Ty Detmer was given a plaque commemorating the proclamation of Ty Detmer day on Saturday June 3, 2023.

GCCS Names New Superintendent

The Board of Education for the Grants/Cibola County Schools voted unanimously to appoint Mr. Lane Widner as the Grants/Cibola County Schools’ new Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2023. Mr. Widner was chosen through a comprehensive search based on the academic leadership profile prepared by the Board after receiving input from staff, parents, students and community members. Mr. Widner will succeed Superintendent Max Perez to lead this diverse school district.
