MILAN, N.M. — The Village of Milan will see one of the most closely watched local elections in Cibola County this year, with multiple candidates vying for leadership roles that will guide the growing village through the next four years.

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Milan residents will elect a mayor, two trustees, and a municipal judge as part of the statewide Regular Local Election.

Mayor’s Seat Draws Community Attention

The mayoral race has drawn particular attention in Milan, where issues such as infrastructure, water management, economic development, and community investment have been central topics of discussion in recent years. The mayor serves as the head of the village government, presides over trustee meetings, and represents Milan in regional and state partnerships.

The seat is currently held by Mayor Felix Orlando Gonzales, who filed for reelection in August.

Gonzales has served in public office for several years as a Milan Village Trustee and as its Mayor.

Board of Trustees

In addition to the mayor’s race, Milan voters will fill two four-year trustee positions. The trustees, along with the mayor, form the governing body of the village.

Trustees oversee local ordinances, budgets, and infrastructure projects, and help set the tone for how Milan approaches growth and community services.

As of the August 26 candidate filing, the following individuals are qualified to appear on the ballot:

• Chris Archuleta (Currently serving on the board)

• James Mercer (Currently serving on the board)

• Virgil Brumbelow

• George Knotts

• Jared Brewer-Windhorst The field represents a broad mix of civic and community experience, showing the heightened engagement from community members in Milan’s 2025 election cycle.

Milan Municipal Judge

The position of municipal judge, currently held by Willie Jaramillo, is also on the ballot.

The judge oversees cases involving village ordinances and local violations, helping ensure the fair administration of justice within the community. The position carries a two-year unexpired term to fill the remainder of the current cycle.

A Growing Community With Big Decisions Ahead

The Village of Milan, home to almost 3,000 residents, has experienced steady growth in recent years — both in population and in economic activity. The village plays a crucial role in the broader Cibola County economy, positioned along Interstate 40 and serving as a hub for logistics, manufacturing, and housing development. A humate mining company recently established a shipping plant in the village.

With several key infrastructure projects underway, like a proposed sewage plant in the village, and others are on the horizon, the outcome of this election could influence how Milan balances growth with sustainability and community needs.
