CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – Bluewater Lake continues to recede as fall temperatures settle across the region, holding 4,695 acre-feet of water as of 2:15 p.m. on November 10. That’s down from 4,711 acre-feet recorded November 8 and nearly 100 acre-feet lower than two weeks ago. The slow but steady decline mirrors seasonal patterns driven by evaporation and limited inflow, keeping the reservoir well below early-summer levels.
The Rio San Jose measured 1.91 feet on the afternoon of November 10, marking another week of stability. The river has held near this level since early September, reflecting consistent but low flow conditions across Cibola County’s watershed.
With 100 percent of the county still classified in drought, both Bluewater Lake and the Rio San Jose remain key indicators of the region’s ongoing water challenges as the year nears its close.
