GRANTS, N.M. – Residents, business owners and drivers who regularly use East Roosevelt Avenue will have an opportunity to weigh in on the future of one of Grants’ busier local corridors.
A public meeting on the East Roosevelt redesign project is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, at 6 p.m. inside the City Hall Chamber, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave.
The meeting is open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend and provide input.
East Roosevelt serves a heavily used area of the city, with nearby businesses, Cibola County offices and Cibola General Hospital all located along or near the corridor. The road also connects local traffic through an area that residents have long identified as needing repair and improved traffic controls.
The redesign discussion is expected to focus on possible improvements to the roadway, safety, access, drainage, sidewalks and traffic flow. Regional planning documents have previously described East Roosevelt reconstruction as a major local road project, with a possible fulldepth re-build from the NM 547/Lobo Canyon Road area east toward Sakelares Boulevard. Earlier planning materials have listed potential improvements such as utilities, sidewalks, Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades and drainage work.
The upcoming meeting gives residents a chance to ask what exactly is being proposed, how much of the project is funded, what portion remains unfunded, whether construction would be phased and how traffic, businesses, county services and hospital access would be affected during any future work.
Residents who use East Roosevelt for work, medical appointments, county business, school traffic or daily travel are encouraged to attend. Public input at this stage could help shape the design before final decisions are made.
