THOREAU, N.M. – Navajo Tribal Utility Authority crews were working Tuesday afternoon to restore water service following an extensive outage affecting Baca, Prewitt, Thoreau and surrounding communities.
In a 1 p.m. update issued July 14, NTUA said a headquarters well service team was replacing the motor and pump at Thoreau Well No. 1. The repair was expected to be completed around 4 p.m. Tuesday, with full system restoration anticipated within another three to four hours with completion expected by Wednesday morning.
NTUA cautioned that the water system would need time to recover after the well returned to service and asked customers who still had water to conserve as much as possible. A water tanker was placed at the Baca Chapter House to provide fresh water during the outage. NTUA said the tanker would be refilled as needed while repairs continued.
“We know this outage has been difficult for affected families, and our crews are working as safely and quickly as possible to restore water service to the area,” NTUA said.
