CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – August brought another collection of life milestones recorded in Cibola County.
From a summer wedding at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church to a courthouse ceremony in Grants, the Cibola Citizen is pleased to recognize couples beginning married life together. Court records also document several marriages coming to an end during the month, and the Citizen extends the same respect to those beginning a different chapter.

Anthony John Maestas of Clayton, N.M., and Jacqueline Chavira of Gallup, N.M., were united in marriage at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Fr. Augustine L. Mathew, a Roman Catholic priest, officiated the ceremony, with Arthur Salazar and Jailean Shipley serving as witnesses. The marriage was recorded with the Cibola County Clerk's Office on Aug. 3.

Al Wyatt of Whiteriver, Arizona, and Tracy Jane Sloan of Crownpoint, N.M., were joined in matrimony at 700 E. Roosevelt Ave. in Grants. Probate Judge Josephine Hurtado officiated the ceremony, with Emerson Sloan and Winona Clah serving as witnesses.
The Cibola Citizen extends heartfelt congratulations to both couples and wishes them happiness, companionship and many wonderful years together.
Divorces Filed in Cibola County – August 2026
Five dissolution proceedings were filed in Cibola County during August. These public records represent significant and often difficult personal transitions, and the Cibola Citizen recognizes them with respect for the individuals and families involved.
On August 10, Lige J. Turner filed for dissolution of marriage from Cheryl Turner. On August 18, Tara N. Wanya filed for dissolution from Gerald K. Wanya. On August 25, Melvin J. Torivio filed for dissolution from Bobbi Torivio. On August 26, Sarah A. Wright filed for dissolution from Anthony Bertucci.
The month's final filing came on August 31, when Alejandro R. Bustillos- Nunez filed for dissolution from Tiffany R.
Bradley.
