MILAN, NM – The Milan Swimming Pool is in operation and is preparing for the Summer season. The pool offers swimming lessons, lap hours, general swims, and many other activities. The pool also offers private party reservations that can be purchased at the village hall.
The pool is “doing great” according to Village of Milan Parks and Recreation Director Leanna Tipton. The pool finished renovations and reopened over a year ago, but some members of the community are still unaware of the pool being open. Despite this the pool has been busy this year. Tipton stated, “A lot more people are remembering that we are here and that we are open… A lot of people didn’t think we had a pool.” The pool is open from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for lap swims, open swims, and swimming lessons. The pool is also open from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays for reserved pool parties.
The construction on Airport Rd. near the swimming pool has been a mild hinderance, according to Tipton it has caused some confusion regarding the location of the swimming pool. Despite this Tipton stated that they are hoping to work on planning a triathlon after construc- tion is completed. Tipton stated, “I think that it would be fun. I think they did it years ago… We want to get back into that.”
The pool is now fully staffed after hiring their last person during the Summer of 2022. Tipton stated, “When I started in September, they couldn’t keep staff and then a couple months later we got fully staffed, and we’ve been fully staffed since.” Tipton said it’s nice being fully staffed but it is difficult trying to get employees to stay considering many of the workers are teenagers and students. The pool currently has five lifeguards and a pool manager.
The pool is nice and warm according to Tipton, the pool is kept at 86 degrees. Tipton also spoke about the hours of the pool, “Even on lap swim or open swim we could still do either one.” Tipton stated that during open swims if someone wants to do laps, they could put a lane in, and vice versa if someone wants to do an open swim they have a space available during the lap swim.
For swimming lessons, it is a two-week class, first individuals need to sign up with the village hall and pay a $40 fee. Currently they have Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Mom and Tot classes available. There is no age limit to the swim lessons. The purpose of the swim lessons are to get individuals comfortable in the water, to not be scared, being able to float, and eventually to swim.
The pool also offers party reservations. Pool party reservations are subject to availability. The party needs to be reserved at the Village Hall and it is $150 for a two-hour session, and a four-hour session could also be booked for $275. Tipton said they are hoping this winter that the pool and the fun room could be used together during reservations. Currently the fun room’s roof is being worked on.
The current prices for admission are as follows: infants (under 1) is free, children (12 and Under) is $2, teens (13-17) and adults (18 and up) is $3, and seniors (55 and up) is $2. There are also water aerobic classes that individuals can participate in and the admission for the 30-minute classes is $3. Lockers can also be rented monthly for $10. The pool also offers punch passes that are able to be used for up to 30 swims and are valid for 90 days from purchase. The punch passes can be pur-
