CHS Press Release On October 19, 2024, Cibola County Historical Society presented La Llorona, courtesy New Mexico Humanities Council.
Rosalia Pacheco and her son, Estevan presented the18th century version of La Llorona depicting a tormented spirit who appears in the dark of night, wandering, screeching, searching for her lost children. Told in the form of a Chautaugua with dialogue, music and dance capturing the traditions of Spanish Colonial heritage and traditions of the Southwest.
There was audience participation, with the crowd singing a favorite 'Las Mananitas' and learning 'La Varsoviana' a traditional dance.
The presentation was so popular, the Cibola County Historical Society has booked her for October 11, 2025 at the Cibola County History Museum.
La Llorona kindly posed with the host witches and a warlock (see attached) and helped celebrate Paul Milan's 90th birthday.
