Donald Toivanen, former resident of Grants and Michigan passed away on February 2, 2021 in Henderson, Texas. He was born in Ishpeming, Michigan to Victor and Aili (Toumi) Toivanen on October 28, 1939. Don attended school in Republic, Michigan and enlisted in the Navy after graduation. He moved to Grants after the Navy and worked several jobs as a barber, miner, prison guard and counselor for the Anaconda Company. He lived in Henderson, Texas for the past several years. He retired as a correctional officer for Bradshaw State Jail. Don was an avid golfer, enjoyed the casinos and other outdoor sports. He also loved the Green Bay Packers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Arnold and Richard Toivanen and a step daughter Brenda Work.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years Sally of Henderson, son Dwayne Toivanen and wife Marlene and their children Olivia and Ava of Grants, daughter Aili Toivanen and partner Frank Jaramillo of Houston and Aili’s children Aleena, Jacob and Nathan. His step children Debi Rogers (J.B. Pritchard), Paul Seward Jr. (Belinda), Kim Nadjkovik and son-in-law John Work. He is survived by two brothers Maryin Toivonen of Republic, Michigan and Neal Toivonen of Summerdale, Alabama.

Visitation was held on Sunday, February 7, 2021 and graveside services were held on Monday, February 8, 2021 in Henderson, Texas.
