Gale Bertha Boyd Barnes

A Private Family Graveside Service for Gale Bertha Boyd Barnes, 76, of Grants, New Mexico will be held on Wednesday February 10,2021at 11:00 a.m. at the El Morro Cemetery, Ramah, N.M.

Reverend Dale Thatcher of Grace Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the El Morro Cemetery.

Gale was born on January 29, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri and went home to be with the Lord on February 2,2021.

Gale married Mabon Edward “Ed” Barnes on December2S,1962. Gale was a homemaker while her children were growing up. She opened her home and her life to all. Her friends, Ed’s friends, the children’s friends and school mates, neighbors and co-workers everyone who came into her home was loved and cared for as they became part of her family. Gale learned cake decorating from her sister Jackie and soon she was baking and decorating cakes for every occasion weddings, birthdays, baby showers. She made the Grants High School MCJROTC Marine Corp Ball cake for many years. She began substitute teaching in the 80’s as her children grew and moved from home. She worked as a long-term substitute for over 30 years, continuing to love and welcome students into her life. Gale was a Doe in the Grants-Milan Elks Lodge for over 50 years.

Surviving are her Children: David Earl Barnes of Grants, N.M.; Kathy Ann Barnes Lovette and husband Steven Todd of Wallburg, North Carolina; Rhonda Gale Barnes of Grants, N.M. and Laura Day Barnes of Las Cruces, N.M. Grandchildren: Jenifer Gaumer and husband Derek, Kelsea Allender and husband Mike; Kathryn Yow and husband Brandon, Triston Lovette, Shiloh Lovette; James Mayers and wife Megan, Micheal Mayers and wife Naomi, and Jerry Tyrkala, Jr.; Alyssa Acevedo and Megan Acevedo. Great Grandchildren Kyla and Zander Allender; Emmeline and Neal Yow; Jude, Harper and Jolene Mayers; Ellenore, Myka and Frankie Mayers. Siblings: Jackie Heath, and Joan Von Wolff.

Gale is preceded in death by her parents: Francis (Frank) David Boyd and Bertha Edgarly Watters Boyd; her sister: Pamela Blakeman; her husband: Mabon Edward Barnes and infant son “Baby” Barnes.

Pallbearers will be: James Mayers, Micheal Mayers, Jerry Tyrkala, Triston Lovette, Todd Lovette, and Michael Allender.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Larry Worthen, Alyssa Acevedo, Megan Acevedo, Kathryn Yow, Shiloh Lovette, Kelsea Allender, and Jeff Mayers.
