Dear editor, President Joe Biden is continuing to try and manufacture momentum for an assault weapon ban where none exists, even though he still knows nothing about guns or gun deaths. Speaking at a candlelight vigil organized by the Newtown Action Alliance, Biden boasted of an assault weapons ban that “we did it before.” He claimed that “it worked” and “we can do it again.” This comes on the heels of Biden claiming last month he would “start counting the votes” on a ban and that “I’m going to try and get rid of assault weapons.” Aside from the fact that the assault weapons ban Biden is referring to did not “work” in any real way, this debate is pointless anyway. There are not going to be the votes to enact an assault weapons ban before Republicans take control of the House in January. And, even if there were, such a ban would solve nothing because Biden and much of the Democratic Party don’t know anything about how guns work or which guns are used most in homicides. In 2019, 10,258 people were killed with guns, and just 364 (3.5%) were killed by rifles, which would include the “assault weapons” Biden wants to ban. The Democratic Party’s gun control agenda would do next to nothing to affect gun deaths in the U.S., especially when the party has also made it a point not to punish criminals who use guns in several Democratic-run states and cities across the country. Biden himself proved that Democrats know nothing about what they want to regulate when he asserted that he wanted to ban semi-automatic guns, which would be nearly all handguns. The White House then walked back. If Biden can’t tell the difference between calling for a ban on “assault weapons” and calling for a ban on semi-automatic weapons, he has no business talking about either. The same is true for the Democratic Party, which thinks that the lethality of a gun comes down to how scary it looks and that AR-15s are somehow magically more dangerous than any other semiautomatic rifle or handgun. As is too often the case, many Democrats know nothing about this issue, and yet they think they should be able to control it entirely.

Since my mailbox is overloaded with Christmas catalogs and multiple requests for donations, guess I need to go shopping and spend some special time with the Boss. Checking out Walmart (with its larger impersonal collection of 'stuff”), Walgreens (sometimes something different), Smith's and Brooks (edibles usually don't have to be returned because they're the wrong size], I know that these gifts are things that my friends can buy for themselves.

Gems are hard to come by. They are covered in dirt and rock, buried deep under the surface and take much work to extract and clean.

Ask Nancy Q+A: Lacking Neighborly Love

Body
As the holidays are approaching, I’ve been feeling sadder and lonelier than usual. I’m 72 and got divorced 20 years ago. I can’t help but wonder what life would look like if my marriage never ended or if I had found someone years ago who would be my loving companion now. Although I have two grown children, they live far away and have their own busy lives, so sometimes I feel like they have forgotten about me. I can keep myself busy during the day with gardening, shopping, taking care of my cats, or seeing friends, but I admit the nights are when I feel most alone. I just wish I had someone to enjoy my evenings with. I’m afraid and worried that I will be spending every holiday by myself. How can I stop feeling so abandoned and hopeless, feeling that I will be alone for the rest of my life?

Dear editor, My wife and I were having dinner at Denny's, when we noticed a small family sitting not too far from us. We could tell that they had been out looking at Christmas lights earlier, the three children were very excited about Christmas! We were reminded of the times we spent with our nine children as they were growing up and it brought us great happiness.

In the days leading up to the election I saw – on Twitter of all places – some pretty disgusting memes that said awful things about County Commissioner Robert Windhorst, these memes were posted in response to the commissioner’s support of Democrat Commissioner Ralph Lucero. What was the point of those rude memes? Some of the comments read, “What kind of republican supports a democrat and green new deal?” (sic.) and “REPUBLICANS SUPPORTING DEMOCRATS? Things are backwards in Cibola county starting with this RINO!” (sic.) This kind of political thought is not only gross, but inappropriate.

Dear editor, “You’re not going home without your baby,” The doctor told us with confidence my wife and I would be going home with what he called a 7-lb baby. We had just checked in on a Monday at Christus St.
