Cibola Fishing Report – August 24–30

CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – With summer winding down and schools back in session, Bluewater Lake saw a quieter week on the water.There were no new angler reports submitted during this stretch—perhaps a sign that the early morning fishing lines have given way to school buses and routine.

This week's Athlete of the Week is Julian Fernandez,12, a freshman running back and linebacker for the Pirates. Fernandez had two touchdowns against St. Pius in last week's football game. Fernandez had 13 carries for 38 yards in that game.

The Grants High School Boys’ and Girls’ soccer teams participated at a tournament in Aztec this last weekend.
The GHS football team had a great season opener defeating I-40 rival, the Miyamura Patriots by a score of 36-14. Pirates Season Opener at Miyamura

The Grants High School pirate football team fresh off a scrimmage with 2A Santa Rosa is headed to Gallup this Friday to take on the 5A Miyamura Patriots in their opening game of the 2025 season.
New head coach of the Lady Pirate soccer team, Shaun Sanchez, has taken over the program this year with a new philosophy and opens a new chapter for the program.
