BLUEWATER LAKE, N.M. – The first week of April brought the kind of activity that signals the start of the warm-season fishing routine in Cibola County: campers at Bluewater, more anglers on the shoreline, and a busy weekend in Grants’ downtown parks.

CIBOLA COUNTY SPORTS ROUND-UP

GRANTS, N.M. Lady Pirate tennis is currently 6-7, 10-0 and are 2nd in their district just after St. Pius (6-1, 2-0).In their most recent match against Hope Christian (4-1) they lost 8-1 to the Lady Huskies.In number 1 singles play Lady Pirate Kylee Sandoval was defeated by Angelina Duselis 6-1, 6-0.

Baseball Wins last 4 Games; Softball 2

GRANTS, N.M. - The Grants High School Boys’ Baseball Team won their last 4 games after defeating Miyamura in a double- header, 5-4, 6-3 on March 24th at home.On March 27th they defeated Kirtland Central in a double header, 5-2, 12-0.

Athlete of the Week

This week's Athlete of the Week is Tori Felipe of the Grants High School Lady Pirate track and field team. Felipe placed 1st in three events, the shot put, discus and javelin at a track meet this past weekend. Felipe has also placed 1st and 2nd in previous track meets in those events.

Cibola Fishing Report – March 25-31

Bluewater Lake is Low, but Fishing and Boating are Great BLUEWATER LAKE, N.M. – The final week of March brought some of the most encouraging fishing news of the season at Bluewater Lake, with multiple reports of successful catches and anglers spending serious time on the line battling tiger muskie.
