Fraternity Men to stop in Grants during cross-country cycling journey

GRANTS, N.M. - The Journey of Hope South team will be stopping in Grants, New Mexico as part of their 59-day, 3,600 mile cross-country journey from Santa Barbara, California to Washington D.C. The group will be arriving in Grants on Friday, July 2.

Martinez earns blue trophy

High School sports are winding down as summer begins. Tristian Martinez (9-0), a senior at Grants High School, took the blue trophy at Girls State wrestling state tournament as she defeated Lilah Yazzie (6-7) of Newcomb in the 180lb division in that championship bout.

Pirate tennis roundup

The GHS boys and girls tennis teams have been busy with recent meets at home and on the road. The lady Pirates have mustered a record 5-2, 4-1 since play began on April 27. “I think we are doing pretty good all things being considered,” said Antonio Williams the GHS girl’s tennis head coach.

Baton Rouge, La. – Current LSU Women's Tennis players Paris Corley received her bachelor's degrees today in the University's spring commencement ceremonies. From Grants, New Mexico, Corley is a twoyear letter winner and has left her mark on the program since joining in 2018- 19.

CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. - Uranium Capitol Speedway has been established and operating in the Cibola County area since 1966 and moved to its permanent home of Milan, New Mexico in 1969. The speedway is a “nonprofit grassroots racetrack,” according to Uranium Capitol Speedway President Don Taylor.

GRANTS N.M. - The Grants High School pirates boys basketball team let one slip away on Tuesday, April 13h in an empty locked out gymnasium as the lost another tight game by single digits as district rival Valencia Jaguars bested them 45-42 in the final seconds of the game.

Pirate baseball 4-4 as season starts

GHS boy’s baseball went 1-1 after a double-header on Saturday, April 17 against the Academy Chargers. In the first game the Pirates scored two runs in the first inning to make the score 2-0. The Chargers responded with a run in the second inning to make the score 2-1 Pirates.
Rivalry at the Port! Long time rival, the Bernalillo Spartans, played a neck and neck game with the Pirates this past Saturday, in a mid-morning match up. The Pirates were unable to overcome the Spartans and lost the contest 61-54 and are currently 1-4, 0-1. Franklin Romero. - CC

Pirates unable to overcome Bernalillo, lose 61-54

GRANTS, N.M. - The Pirates just finished playing three games this week at home and despite some good runs and comebacks they were unable to pull out a win. The big game was the 11 a.m. Saturday matchup between the Pirates and longtime rival, the Bernalillo Spartans, who came in at 3-1.
