GRANTS, N.M. – Statewide, threats to schools are on the increase. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is seeing a massive increase in threats to schools. In just the first six months of 2022, the FBI noted an 850 percent increase in threats of violence toward schools.

When David McBride first came to NASA’s remote outpost in the Mojave Desert in 1982 as a cooperative education student, he didn’t imagine becoming its center director. “I was expecting to be here for one semester, but right away I was captivated by the work and more importantly the people who do the work,” McBride said.

Cibola Braces for Extreme Heat

Extreme Weather is on the way to Cibola County. The National Weather Service is warning residents in the western portion of the United States that a heat dome is preparing to settle over the region, bringing potentially record-breaking heat to Cibola County. Monsoonal rains are expected to take a backseat as the heat dome finds a resting place over the country. Already, higher-than-average temperatures are being recorded in parts of Texas thanks to the heat dome, which is coming around just as New Mexico reaches the annual peak of fire season.

Governor Lujan Grisham Takes Executive Action to Protect Abortion Rights

Michelle Lujan Grisham on Monday signed an executive order protecting access to reproductive health care services in New Mexico, protecting medical providers from attempts at legal retribution and establishing that New Mexico will not entertain extradition attempts from other states relating to receiving or performing reproductive services.

Despite the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, access to safe and legal abortion remains robustly protected in numerous states across the country, including in New Mexico and the coalition states. As highlighted by the multistate coalition’s efforts in the amicus brief led by California in Dobbs, the coalition of attorneys general will continue to fight to support the rights of pregnant people nationwide.
