Navajo Nation Member Pleads Guilty to Voluntary Manslaughter in Fatal Altercation

TOHAJILEE, NM – Cole Ray Shorty, a 19year-old enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection with a fatal altercation that took place in May 2022. Shorty admitted to his involvement in the incident during a court appearance, according to a statement by Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office.

Pinehill Man Charged with Murder After Three Found Shot

RAMAH, NM – Pinehill man Ellery Brent Yazzie is being charged with murder after being discovered lying with a gunshot wound to his head next to two other deceased men. Yazzie, a 36-year-old enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, appeared in federal court on January 24 to face charges of murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault resulting in serious bodily injury, and using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence, according to a criminal complaint filed by the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Albuquerque Field Office.

NMDOT Announces First Round of Funding Awards for $11.9 Million from National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Funding

SANTA FE, NM The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) received $38.3 million in NEVI Formula funding to distribute through 2026. The funds will be used for the expansion of a National EV Charging Infrastructure network in the State of New Mexico. In the first round of funding distributions, NMDOT received 17 applications and awarded $11.9 million to six (6) entities, for a total of 20 locations and 84 new EV chargers across New Mexico.
