LFC Recommends $10.1 Billion Budget

Press Release SANTA FE, NM – The Legislative Finance Committee today released a budget recommendation for the 2024-2025 fiscal year that calls for spending $10.1 billion from the state’s general fund, a 5.9 percent, or $566 million, increase over FY24 planned spending. “After two years of recordsetting income, the FY24-25 budget is a reminder that we must meaningfully invest in programs that truly help and work for New Mexico, while simultaneously protecting the state from future revenue shortfalls,” said Senator George Muñoz, LFC chairman and chair of the Senate Finance Committee.

Gov. Lujan Grisham releases FY25 Executive Budget Recommendation

SANTA FE, NM – Today, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham released the FY25 executive budget recommendation. The budget totals $10.5 billion in recurring spending, a 9.9 percent increase from the last fiscal year. The executive recommendation will maintain reserves at 34.2 percent. The budget directs meaningful investments in key areas including housing, education, child wellbeing, public safety, health care, economic development, and water and natural resources.

Bridging Worlds for Native American Education in New Mexico

SANTA FE, N.M. – KatieAnn Juanico is the new assistant secretary of Indian Education at the New Mexico Public Education Department. She was announced as the new assistant secretary by Secretary Arsenio Romero on May 9, and has since started her work to inform New Mexico Native American communities that the department is here to support their efforts and help improve their student proficiency, something she plans to do with a cultural acknowledgement about the struggles of balancing both the western and traditional cultures that Native students must navigate.
