LAGUNA, N.M. – On Sept. 12, around 9:30 a.m., a New Mexico State Police Officer was patrolling Interstate 40 when she initiated a traffic stop at mile marker 130 near Laguna, New Mexico. The officer pulled over a GMC pickup, which was driven by a Scottsdale, Arizona man, Robert Benjamin Nelson. The stop was anything but routine.

MILAN, N.M – Homestake Mining Company of California has alerted authorities to a spill of uranium-contaminated water. Despite the spill, Homestake officials say there is no threat to the people living near the Homestake site and that the contaminated water is being cleaned up.

GRANTS, N.M. – On September 13 around midnight Grants Police Officer Justin Ahlheim witnessed a vehicle travelling behind him spin out, according to a police report from Grants Police Department. Ahlheim deduced this to have been the fault of a car accident and had to quickly maneuver his patrol car into a turning lane to avoid being hit by the same vehicle which had allegedly caused the accident.

Udall, Heinrich, Torres Small hail $2.5 Million investment; Carlsbad and Artesia support small businesses and economic growth

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and Martin Henrich (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representative Xochitl Torres Small (D-N.M.) announced the cities of Carlsbad and Artesia will receive more than $2.5 million from the Economic Development Administration as local economies continue to respond and rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic.
