DOJ Misses Deadline, Endangering Case Resolution in Cibola

In an ongoing effort to combat the crisis of missing or murdered Indigenous persons (MMIP), the Department of Justice (DOJ) has taken significant steps to address unresolved cases, including that of Mona Renee Vallo. However, as of the designated deadline, the DOJ has yet to release its response to the recommendations put forth by the Not Invisible Act Commission, raising concerns about the delayed progress in addressing the MMIP crisis.

Altercation Leads to Arrest at Vista Mesa Villa Apartment Complex

Grants, N.M. – During a routine patrol, an officer from the Grants Police Department received a dispatch call directing them to the Vista Mesa Villa Apartment Complex located at 1131 Mount Taylor. The call pertained to a reported argument between a mother and a friend inside one of the apartments. The reporting party was expected to remain in the lobby of the apartment complex.

GRANTS, NM – The Cibola Arts Council board of directors met on Saturday, January 27, to share a generous buffet with supporters and to discuss possible new projects for this season that might interest local patrons. The council is concerned about the decrease in local support following the COVID-19 pandemic and has several ideas that might inform the community about the council and gallery and entice former loyal patrons to return.

Grants Cibola County Schools Working to Improve NM Vistas Scores

Grants, NM – Each year the New Mexico Public Education Department calculates the overall performance of students across the state. These scores are released in June and reflects the previous school year. Grants High School received a score of 56 and is designated as a traditional school and Laguna-Acoma High School received a score of 52 and is designated as an Additional Targeted Support and Improvement School or ATSI school.

An Artist Since His Youth

LAGUNA – Alfred Pino began his creative journey at a young age. He was born in Gallup, but raised in Laguna by his grandparents, Juan and Esther Aragon. Later, his mother learned the skill of making pottery and would give him blank pots to practice on. As an only child there were few distractions and Pino spent his time drawing. When his mother made him a seed pot to paint, he painted the traditional way with a yucca brush and paint made from spinach juice and brown rocks.

This is Nugget. She is a 1.5year-old spayed Retriever mix. This baby is pretty shy at first but is a sweetheart once she can trust people. She is pretty scared being in the shelter but she gets along with other dogs.
