Martin Gary Pearl
September 8, 1934 – September 12, 2026 Martin Gary “Marty” Pearl passed away on September 12, 2026, at the age of 92, leaving behind a loving family, a distinguished career in public service, and a lifetime of memories shared with those who knew and loved him.
Marty was born on September 8, 1934, in the Bronx, New York, to Jack and Fannie Pearl. He grew up in New York and graduated from Bedford Park High School before attending New York University. He went on to pursue a career in law, graduating from New York Law School in 1960.
Marty married the love of his life, Lois, and together they shared 62 years of marriage. Their life together took them from New York to New Mexico, where Marty began a long and accomplished legal and judicial career in 1964.
Throughout his career, Marty served his community in numerous roles, including as an attorney, assistant district attorney, public defender, magistrate judge, and district judge. He had the distinction of serving as the first magistrate judge in Valencia County, New Mexico. His many years in the legal profession and on the bench reflected a deep commitment to the law and to public service.
Marty and Lois were longtime residents of Grants, New Mexico, a community they called home for many years. More recently, they relocated permanently to Arizona to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Outside of his professional life, Marty had many interests and passions. He was an avid fisherman and photographer, an enthusiastic collector of firearms, and a lifelong dog lover. These pursuits brought him great enjoyment throughout his life and provided many treasured memories for his family and friends.
Marty is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lois Pearl; his two sons, Robert and Steven; his grandchild; and his three great-grandchildren. He is also remembered as the son of Jack and Fannie Pearl and brother of Aleen (Pearl) Colitz.
Over the course of more than nine decades, Marty built a life defined by family, service, accomplishment, and the things he loved. From the Bronx to New Mexico and finally Arizona, his life touched many people—as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, attorney, judge, colleague, and friend.
His family will remember not only the career he built and the many roles he held, but most importantly the husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was at the center of their family for so many years.
Martin Gary Pearl will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
