The Cibola National Forest was shutdown for several weeks due to the increased fire danger. Thanks to recent rains, the forest is now green with moisture and reopened to the public’s use.

Grants Man Indicted for Holding Woman Captive

GRANTS, N.M. – A 47-year-old Grants man has been indicted on one count of False Imprisonment, and one count of Battery Upon a Peace Officer. Delmar Eldridge was arrested by Grants Police Department on April 5, before he could be fully booked, Eldridge allegedly attacked a GPD officer.

Missing Man Found

GRANTS, N.M. – 58-year-old John Paul Lynn of Grants, New Mexico, went missing from his home on June 16. On July 13, he presented himself to Grants Police Department to show that he was not only safe, but well. The missing person alert was taken down on July 13.
The United States Postal Service is honoring Mexican culture with new mariachi stamps. U.S. Postal Service Honors Mariachi, the Traditional Music of Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — The U.S. Postal Service celebrated the sounds of mariachi, the traditional music of Mexico that has become widely popular in the United States, with a first-day-of-issue ceremony unveiling a pane of 20 Mariachi Forever stamps at the 30th Annual Mariachi Spectacular de Albuquerque.

New Hotline for Mental Health Assistance

A new phone number will make it easier to access mental health tools and support nationwide. Cibola County residents, like all Americans, can now call or text “988” for mental health support. The three-digit number will apply for everyone.

Drive-By Shooting in Grants

GRANTS, N.M. - The early morning of July 18 was rocked by gunfire in Grants, New Mexico. Several shots rang off near the Lobo Canyon Apartments in what police called, “a drive-by shooting.” There were no fatalities or injuries during the shooting.

Requesting Funding from the Village

MILAN, N.M. – Several groups are requesting funding from the Village of Milan Board of Trustees, these agencies all provide a service of some kind to the village. The requests came during a budget meeting for the village on July 14.
