Cibola County Amateur Radio Club

The Cibola County Amateur Radio Club monthly meeting is Thursday August 19-2021, at 6 p.m. at the Asian Café at 1508 E Santa Fe Ave Grants, NM. The CCARC is a non-profit 501c, all volunteer organization made up of local amateur radio operators that help local governments during emergencies, lost persons, and events. We help citizens obtain their license to become an amateur radio operator or renew them after they have expired within the new 2-year grace period. We also help citizens obtain the new GMRS license available to the public to communicate with family members with twoway radio when phone services are not working. Visitors and members must pay for their own meal, the public is welcome to attend.

NMSU Grants professor reflects on years of learning and teaching

After a COVID-fueled year dramatically changed the way students can attend school and the way educators can teach, many educators are deciding to turn in the drawing board for the retirement life. Some of these educators are those who have offered many years of their life to teaching and sharing their expertise with others. One of those educators is Karen Henry, a professor at NMSU-Grants for eight years and a citizen of Cibola County for 33 years.

NMSU Grants holds summer math camp

New Mexico State University-Grants recently started a summer math camp program for local students to participate in. The math camp began on June 18 and will be held every Friday through July 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration began on June 10 and the original fee to participate was $60 for six sessions. However, registration is ongoing, the fee costs are prorated – meaning that if a student were to register prior to June 25, the cost would be $50 for the remaining five sessions, $40 if they started July 2, et cetera. Students can register by calling NMSU Grants at 505-287-6678.

GHS graduate receives athletic scholarship

CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – Grants High School graduate Emily Ramirez recently received the 2021 Steve Bell Athletic Scholarship, which is a $1,000 award. Emily has been involved in sports her entire life. She explained that her participation offered opportunities to develop important leadership skills, which she applies on and off the playing fields.
