Occupational cancer is now the leading cause of death among fire fighters – surpassing heart disease. The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN) are committed to reversing this trend to save more fire fighter lives.

City of Grants remains without a manager

GRANTS, N.M. – The City of Grants has been without a manager since November 18, on January 3 at a special city meeting, a contender for the manager’s position, Vanessa Chavez, formally withdrew her name, citing the damage internal turmoil has done to the city. The short city meeting led to no action at all being taken by the city council except for the opening and closing of the meeting by elected officials. Unlike the last special city meeting where three city councilors did not show up, every single councilor was present at the Jan. 3 meeting.

At approximately 1:43 p.m. on December 29, Grants Fire along with multiple agencies were dispatched to the 71 MM for a truck that had rolled over with a trailer attached. Upon arrival personnel found one occupant still in the vehicle, the passenger was thrown from the rear to the front floorboard. Grants Fire removed the passenger door and allowed access for personnel to remove the patient. The patient was transported to the hospital. No injuries were reported to fire personnel. MFD honors retired firefighter for 97th birthday

MILAN, N.M. — Just before Christmas 2021, Milan Fire Department decided to honor retired firefighter Ed Miles on his 97th birthday. Miles spent 25 years serving the Milan Fire Department before retiring a little over ten years ago. Although he is retired and not firefighting in an official capacity, Miles still plays an active role with the department and supports them in whatever ways he can.

Diamond G recognizes local heroes

GRANTS, N.M. — On September 30, Diamond G Home Center & Rental announced via a social media post on Facebook that they wanted to celebrate some local heroes. “As a ‘Thank You’ to our community we would like to dress these local hero[es] in Carhartt Workwear. So we are giving $250.00 each to a firefighter, police officer, medical staff, correction officer, and a teacher,” read the Sept. 30 Diamond G social media post.
