GRANTS, N.M. – Three members of the Grants City Council did not show up to the Special City Council Meeting on December 27. Due to a lack of a quorum – a majority of councilors – the city could not legally do business and the meeting was cancelled after one citizen comment. Mayor Pro tem Rick Lucero, Councilor Fred Padilla, and Councilor Fred Rodarte are the councilors who did not show up to this meeting, despite it being scheduled a week in advance. Councilor Erik Garcia was the only voting member of the council present, and expressed his disappointment that the other councilors didn’t make it.

GPD Officer Will saves life

In the early morning of December 25, Christmas Day, Officer Brandon Will with the Grants Police Department saved a life and brought comfort to a person in mental distress. The several minute long situation was captured by Officer Will’s body camera, showing every single harrowing moment from when he first arrived on scene to the heroism and calm demeanor he maintained through the ordeal.

Trustees approve premium pay for employees and review audit findings

Next, the board approved Resolution 2021-038 ‘ARPA funding use,’ which allows the village to use a portion of their American Rescue Plan Act funds to distribute a one-time premium payment to their employees, specifically recognizing them as essential workers who faced many challenges throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – Children of Cibola were treated, not by Santa Claus, but by law enforcement through Cibola County. In the annual Shop With A Cop event, children in need are taken out of class and given money so they could go shopping just before the holidays, shoppers are joined by a first responder who goes with them through the store.

AG Balderas announces emergency room technicians can draw blood for DWI investigations after NM Supreme Court upholds NM Court of Appeals decision

ALBUQUERQUE, NM— Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that the New Mexico Supreme Court determined a hospital emergency department technician, also licensed as an EMT, with training and experience in drawing blood, is statutorily authorized to draw blood for the purposes of DWI investigations.
