Big changes coming to Grants Police Department

GRANTS, N.M. – Interim Chief Jeff Marez of Grants Police Department has been on the job for just about a week and is already making big changes at the department to refocus and reestablish trust with the community and officers. These changes come off the heels of City Manager Vanessa Chavez saying she wants to take Grants Police Department in a new, more productive direction.

Reporter CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – New Mexico hospitals are overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients, there are not enough beds for both people with COVID and people who are involved in serious accidents. Because of this, New Mexico’s healthcare system is so badly strained that it has now entered Crisis Standards of Care. This means hospital resources will be distributed to those with the “greatest opportunity to benefit,” and not all patients will be treated with the same urgency; overwhelmed hospitals and medical staff simply do not have the ability to provide the level of care they usually would for all patients. These crisis standards come with legal framework to protect hospitals and care providers while fighting COVID-19 on the front lines; since the pandemic began, this is New Mexico’s second time in crisis standards

Village prepares cannabis ordinance and manager sets new COVID protocols

VILLAGE OF MILAN, N.M. – The Village of Milan Board of Trustees met at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13 for a workshop meeting. Trustee Chris Archuleta was absent from the workshop. Following the prayer and pledge of allegiance, the board passed the floor over to Village Clerk Denise Baca, who provided updates and information on upcoming agenda items that would appear on the next regular Board of Trustees meeting. According to Baca, that meeting’s agenda will be rather lengthy, so discussing these items in the workshop helps the trustees to be able to go into the meeting informed and prepared to make decisions.

Mask mandate extended

SANTA FE, N.M. – The statewide requirement that face masks be worn in all indoor public spaces, with only limited exceptions and regardless of vaccination status, will be extended, the Office of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced Friday.

GRANTS, N.M. – Since the opening moments of his administration, Grants Police Chief Steve Chavez has been an embattled leader. The City of Grants is no stranger to internal turmoil, especially over the course of the last four years; turmoil the police department contributed to. The Chavez administration ended in a letter of resignation submitted Oct. 18 and accepted by the City of Grants.

Grants Fire and Rescue, Cibola County Sheriff’s Office, Milan Fire Department, Cibola County Fire Command, and multiple other agencies have been working tirelessly to determine the causes of accidents and keep the public safe.
