GRANTS, N.M. - The State of New Mexico is currently in its 55th legislative session. There are several bills that have local law enforcement concerned. Those bills are House Bill 4- Civil Rights Act, House Bill 140- Minimum Sentencing, House Bill 254-Police Use of Force and Reporting, House Bill 263- Criminal Justice Reform, Senate Bill 192-Law Enforcement Disclosure of Evidence, Senate Bill 105-Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion and Senate Bill 376-Qualified Immunity.

Limiting emergency powers

SANTA FE, N.M. – A bipartisan group of New Mexico State legislators is working to limit the governor’s power when it comes to emergency declarations. The proposed legislation, House Bill 139, adds a new section to the Public Health Emergency Response Act, which would limit the length of any public health emergency and force the governor to ask for permission from the legislature to extend the emergency declaration.

Master Gardener Program comes to Cibola/McKinley County

McKINLEY/CIBOLA COUNTIES, N.M. - The Master Gardener Program was recently launched in Cibola and McKinley counties. The program was started by the New Mexico County Extension Services and is designed to take the gardening information that New Mexico State University releases and transfer it to the public by training volunteers. It is a teaching program that will cover a wide variety of “research-based” topics such as gardening, landscaping, tree care, plant treatment, pest management, et cetera, according to Cibola County Master Gardener Roy Archibald,
