Pirates drop homecoming game, 44-0

Homecoming was not too homely for the hosting Grants Pirates, as they lost their 2022 homecoming game to the fifth ranked Taos Tigers who came in with a 5-1 record to the Port of the Pirates last Saturday. The Pirates had to contend with Taos’ next level quarterback, Damien Ely, who stands all of 6” 7’, and is one of the more accomplished players in the state in that pilot seat.

Pirates come up short in 14-7 Loss

The Grants High School Pirates came up a touchdown short this past weekend against the Kirtland Central Broncos (2-2) as the defense was able to hold the Broncos offense to 14 points, the lowest number of points the Pirates have held an opposing team this season. “Defensively, we were looking at creating winning matchups for ourselves—and we feel that worked well for us,” said GHS head football coach Brandon Hernandez. “Our defense played tough the entire game—they gave us a shot to win at the end,” The sole Pirate touchdown came in the fourth quarter when Julian Abeyta capped off a 15play drive in the fourth quarter with a one-yard rushing touchdown.
