Body
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D.N.M.) and U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.) and Melanie Stansbury (D- N.M.) issued the following statement supporting President Biden’s announcement to ban oil and gas leasing for 20 years around Chaco Canyon and surrounding areas in northwestern New Mexico, a sacred site that that members of the N.M. Reflecting on Veterans Day

Body
GRANTS, N.M. — Thursday, November 11, is Veterans Day, veterans in Grants will be honored at Friendship Park in Grants, then at the Fire and Ice Park, and finally the event will culminate at the American Legion Post 80 in Grants. The event will begin at 11 a.m. at Veterans Park.

A day to honor all veterans

Body
The month of November is a special time for the nation’s veterans. While Memorial Day honors fallen soldiers and service people, Veteran’s Day, which takes place each November, is an opportunity to commemorate the efforts of all who have been in the armed forces, with a special emphasis on living veterans. While people are encouraged to thank veterans throughout the year, Veteran’s Day is a particularly poignant time to show your appreciation for the men and women of the military.

The Marine Corps Birthday

Body
The Marine Corps Birthday is observed on November 10. It was created on November 10, 1921 by the U.S. Government to show appreciation for the United States Marines. Having taken part in nearly every U.S. conflict, the Marine Corps has defended our country since America’s inception. The Corps, with over 186,000 active duty members and 38,500 reserves as of 2017, continues its proud tradition as protectors of the U.S. and its people.

How Memorial Day and Veterans Day differ from each other

Body
Memorial Day and Veterans Day each honor the military, though the two holidays are not the same. Memorial Day, which is celebrated annually on the last Monday in May, honors the brave men and women who lost their lives while serving in the American military. Many communities host memorial ceremonies honoring their fallen soldiers on Memorial Day, ensuring such soldiersÕ bravery and sacrifices are never forgotten. While many people now view Memorial Day weekend as the unofficial start of summer, the weekend should not be celebrated without also pausing to reflect on and recognize the military personnel who lost their lives in defense of freedom and the American way of life.
