This week's Athletes of the Week is : Laila Martinez, a senior on the Grants High School Pirate Cross Country team; and Cardenio Chavez, a wide receiver with the GHS Pirate Football team. Laila took first place in the at the Presteguis Rio Rancho Jamboree with a time of 21:13.0.

GRANTS, N.M. - The Grants High School Volleyball Team is 5-6 after two recent losses: On September 9 they lost to Bernalillo 3-2 (12-25, 2522, 17-25, 25-18, 18-20), and then lost 3-0 (2525,25-20,25-150). Next up for the Pirates will be Del Norte (1-5) on the road on September 17.

Pirates Storm Espanola 54-0

GRANTS, N.M. - The fourth game of the season for the Grants High School Pirates was almost over as fast as it started, however, mother nature had a thing or two to say about that. A mini tornado, hail and lightning postponed the game after the Pirates went up 26 in the first quarter.

CIBOLA COUNTY Fishing activity at Bluewater Lake has slowed in recent weeks, with no new reports submitted to the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish as of mid-September.
