Fire Chief Daniel Urioste was also in attendance along with Milan Trustee Roseanne Lopez and a few members of the public.

Because of increases in March, COVID-19 cases in Cibola are now at their highest since December 1, 2022. Climbing through the month of March, Cibola County was hit with an increase of cases which brought one death due to COVID-19 at the end of the month.

First Five-Year Review of Safety Measures at Former Kirtland Demolition Bombing Range has Begun

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces the beginning of a Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) Five-Year Review of the Former Kirtland Air Force Base Demolition Bombing Range (KDBR) Munitions Response Site (MRS) in Cibola County, New Mexico. The property is now part of the El Malpais National Monument.

New Food Pantry on The Way

GRANTS, NM – The Grants Community Pantry is preparing for a move. There is no set date, but according to Alice Perez, who is the Executive Director of the Community Pantry and Hope Garden in Gallup as well as the Grants Community Pantry, the move will happen by June 1. “Some of the red tape takes a little while,” Perez said. The new site located on Sakelares Boulevard will more than double the square footage of the current 3500 square foot Stephens Avenue location.

GRANTS, N.M. – Hospitable Grants wants you. The paid hospitality training program sponsored by Grants Main-Street Project is seeking employed and unemployed residents with a desire to join the hospitality industry and gain new skills to prepare them to be ambassadors for Cibola County. “We can train fifteen people max,” Will Yarborough said. As Executive Director of Grants MainStreet Project, Yarborough will be leading parts of the 12week training that will take place at the Grants Public Library. According to Yarborough, the program seeks to educate people about the cultural and geographical assets that surround the city of Grants as well as train folks in communication skills so they can offer great customer service to tourists and locals seeking information about the many surrounding beautiful places of interest.

GRANTS, NM – Mayor Erik Garcia started the Grants City Council meeting on March 29 by asking to remove the executive session, “Due to the fact [City Manager] Donald [Jaramillo] did nothing wrong. This is an attack from [City Councilwoman] Beverly [Michael].” Mayor Garcia also wanted Item number 24 removed from the agenda.

GRANTS, NM - At the regular Lodgers Tax Board meeting on March 23, the board members began by reviewing the action items that they will take action on in a future meeting. According to Scott Grey, the City of Grants Lodgers Tax awarded $300,000 in lodgers tax funds last year.

Massive Blaze on 605 Extinguished

CIBOLA COUNTY, NM – As winds reached speeds of over 50 miles per hour on April 3, an RV caught on fire. What started as a relatively small, contained blaze was caught by the wind which spread hot ambers across the land before finally, enough embers landed and caught a large wall of tires on fire.
