Peter Pan Live at GHS Performing Arts Center

GRANTS, NM – Friday, March 10, was the unveiling of the new Peter Pan play – the non-flying version. If you were unable to attend the packed performance that ran March 10 and 11 at the Grants High Performing Arts Center, you missed a real treat. The adapted version was written by Jon Jory and includes a female Captain Hook and a nonflying Peter Pan and Wendy though the two were able to rise above the ground thanks to movable ladders and a strong stage crew dressed in black.

Rep. Eliseo “Lee” Alcon Continues Fighting for Veterans

SANTA FE, NM – Legislation designed to help New Mexico veterans and their families unanimously passed the House and will face the Senate Tax, Business and Transportation Committee Tuesday. Representative Eliseo “Lee” Alcon (D-District 6) sponsored House Joint Resolution 5 and House Joint Resolution 6 for the fourth year.

The main topics involved raises for Grants Police Department, and repaving and updating Roosevelt Avenue from the intersection of Lobo Canyon Road to Sakelares Boulevard.

Thoreau Man Charged with Assault

THOREAU, NM – Thoreau man Gerrick Mariano made an initial appearance in federal court after a criminal complaint was levied against him. The complaint charges Mariano with assault resulting in serious bodily injury on the Navajo Nation for an assault that allegedly took place in August 2022.

Milan Fire Department Receives Anonymous Thank You

MILAN, NM – The Village of Milan Fire Department received an anonymous thank you in the mail. In a Facebook post, MFD wanted to say thank you. The post reads: “We received the best gift ever this morning in Station 1’s mail box! It was delivered anonymously, so we would like to say ‘thank you’ for thinking of us! The thought, gift and the saying on the sign made our firefighters’ day! If you zoom in on the sign, it says, ‘Firefighters Because Even Cops Need Heroes’”

Police Teach Public Safety

MILAN, NM – On March 9, Milan Police Department and Grants Police Department joined hands to show students at Milan Elementary about the importance of police and public safety in their community. In a Facebook message the school wrote: Thanks to Chief Maxine Monte-Spidle from Grants Police Department, Chief Carl Ustupski, Sergeant Vallejos and Officer Candelaria from Milan Police Department for coming in to talk to our Pre-K classes. They taught them about stranger danger, car safety, personal space and obeying the law. They then got to look at the different units and turn on the sirens. We had a great morning!
