New Mexico really is the Land of Enchantment. In my 23 years of life, I have been from sea to shining sea, I have stood in this nation’s amber waves of grain.

Why the children? Dear Editor: I really don’t understand why the FDA gave emergency approval for the experimental vaccination of our children (12 years and older) on May 10, 2021. The CDC reports that COVID infection in the young (even those under the age of 65) has a 99.9 percent recovery rate.

Pondering Pundit

We have all heard that ole rhyme, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” How untrue this is. I think I would much rather be bludgeoned by sticks and stones than be the recipient of harmful words.

Staying compliant with the charter

CITY OF GRANTS, N.M. – The City of Grants exists thanks to the city charter. The charter declares that the city was established by and for the people of Grants, because of this, the charter goes to great lengths to protect the citizens of the city, focusing on the citizens before even discussing the city government. The charter goes on to establish the city council as the legislature, the mayor and city manager as the executives, and finally the municipal judge as the judicial branch of government. The charter goes on to detail how positions in city government can be filled to help with the day-to-day affairs of the city; how the government is meant to pay for its affairs.

Shedding Light

An idea that has been useful to me as I have grown older is the idea that I have control over what I am exposed to, what I focus on, what I dwell on, et cetera. I have developed a sort of filter over the years, or at least that it what I like to think of it as – a filter, lens, or more simply, perspective. I try my best to use this “filter” efficiently by training myself to look for and focus on the positive things of life. However, this does not mean that I completely block out the negative or bad things. This is a lesson I have learned just within the past year: I can acknowledge that the negative is there without letting it consume me.
