The United States of America is an empire built to withstand the test of time. With a promise to uphold the righteous, God-given rights of Freedom and Liberty, this nation fulfilled its conquest of Manifest Destiny and faced a great reckoning with the driving force behind its economy: Slavery. Coming out of the American Civil War stronger and closer to its promise of A More Perfect Union, the United States uplifted the rights of women, African Americans, and other minorities.

Dear Editor: Reading the article by Diego Lopez concerning our new marijuana facility, followed by some validating research, raises a number of alarms, including the following: 1. Where will the company get the gigantic quantity of water needed? This is especially concerning since our mayor has declared water scarcity and has asked our households and city government to curtail water use.

So, this is probably going to be a long one and I’m probably going to cuss a few times so if you get offended, probably stop reading now. Mayor Hicks asked me Monday, if I would attend a meeting on Tuesday for the veterans in our community at NMSU Grants campus and I said sure. This meeting was with legislative members from NM both having NM representatives and NM senators. Harry Garcia and Lee Alcon are two of the 18 committee members. They get together in different communities, and they are supposed to be listing to the concerns of our veterans and trying to come up with some solutions to help with their needs.

A Glimpse of What Once Was

Body
This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend this year’s New Mexico State University versus University of New Mexico Rio Grande rivalry football matchup. I am a student at NMSU Grants, so of course I cheered for the Aggies. Although they did lose, it was still a fun game and time with family and friends. My favorite part though, wasn’t the game, the snacks, or the loud cheering between Aggie and Lobo fans. My favorite part was the halftime show, when UNM and NMSU’s marching bands and dance teams joined together as one to honor first responders, the victims of September 11, 2001, each branch of the U.S. military, and America.

A Santa Fe company is looking to nature for solutions to crumbling roads and uranium mines that were abandoned without proper capping. Evaluations provided by Los Alamos National Laboratory scientists through the New Mexico Small Business Assistance (NMSBA) program have put those solutions within reach.

Feeding Frenzy

Like chum in shark-infested waters, news of the state’s revenue windfall has stirred up a feeding frenzy. But while a projected $1.4 billion in “new money” available for expanded spending in the 2021-2022 fiscal year certainly opens the door to options, it’s important to remember that we have existing, substantial obligations.
