Letters to the Editor

Body
Repeating history Dear Editor; Thank you for printing my letter. I was not sure if I still had the right to say my opinion, but to borrow a few words from David Allen Coe’s song, “I’ve got something to say boy’s I’ve got something to say.” So, hear goes, I like to read old books, geography, history, state history and one old book says those that don’t pay attention to history are bound to repeat it.

Pondering Pundit

Body
During this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, many individuals have been affected and it has changed the world we live in. It has changed how we interact with each other and how we do business. This pandemic has touched all our lives. Families are having to deal with the death of loved ones due to the coronavirus. Families not being able to get together for special events or holidays has put a huge strain on all our livelihood. Yet we still must carry on.

The new norm: …Now in February!

Body
By Roger Siegmann I hope the cold, short days as well as this pandemic are nearing their end and we can get back to some type of normal life and can attend major social events with our granddaughters that we have in the past. Take February for example: Last year we attended the Super National car show in Albuquerque at the Manual Lujan Building on the State Fair grounds.

The new norm: …The New Norm… Red, yellow, green!

Body
I was watching the morning news and noticed that more New Mexico counties are achieving the yellow or green color categories that allow businesses less restrictions and an opportunity to reopen on a limited scale. This is good news. We have all been following the colors in hope that one day the whole state will re-open.

The Turning of the Leaf

Body
I’ve never been much of an environmentalist; I keep my trash in a can and recycle if given the chance. Though, it’s occurred to me that we are more connected to nature than we think. Jesus often likens us to vines or the ground which grow fruit or wheat. It is important that we understand that we aren’t machines taking in and putting out. There is more to our existence. Just as nature is more than just the scenery around you. We get lost in worldly things (done purposely by the devil I might add) and take for granted the simplicity and beauty that is God’s creation.

Good honest people

Body
Dear Editor; Recently, I found that I had lost my wallet probably in the parking lot at Grants' Smith's store. I feared that I had fallen to the old saying - Finders keepers, losers weepers.

The new norm: …2021 Valentine’s Day!

Body
Things will be different this upcoming Valentine’s Day for many people due to the loss of a loved one to COVID-19, or another reason. This may be the first year one finds their mate or best friend no longer here to share this special day; it will be difficult.

Shedding Light

Body
I learned a lot about life with a club in my hands and a golf ball on the grass. That sounds sort of cheesy, but it’s true. I started playing golf my freshman year of high school and played on the Varsity team through all four years — well, three and a half.

The new norm: …Super Bowl-size challenge!

Body
While Evelyn and I were watching the Wheel of Fortune on television one evening last week, I mentioned to her that I thought the football Super Bowl was on Jan. 31, so please get pizza and we can watch it together.
