Big-bats-be-just-aswinging! The Grants High School Pirates Baseball Team with a solid,185, 5-0 record, are ranked second in the state in 4A and will battle for bragging rights with the number one ranked team in 4-A and district rival, the St. Pius Sartans (15-4, 32), on Tuesday, April 18 at home.

New Mexico United Fights to 1-1 Draw in Home Opener

ALBUQUERQUE NM - New Mexico United and San Diego Loyal SC fought to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night in front of 11,233 fans at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park. An early goal from captain and midfielder Sam Hamilton got the evening started off on the right foot.

This week's Athlete of the Week is Nico Young a sophomore on the Grants Pirates Baseball Team. Young has been a factor with his pitching in two recent games and has been a major contributor to the Pirates overall game strategy.

The GHS baseball team is tactfully navigating the seas of district play as they won their last two district games. With those two wins, they extended their winning streak to eight games and improved their record to 17-5. Currently the Pirates are ranked second in the maxpreps. com state rankings for 4-A, just after St. Pius whom they defeated on March 31 by a score of 10-9. Belen, another district rival, is ranked third in the state. The Pirates are currently ranked number one in district 5 4-A just ahead of the Valencia Jaguars and St. Pius.

New Mexico United Tops UDA NMSU 6-0, Advances to Third Round of US Open Cup

ALBUQUERQUE, NM New Mexico United advanced to the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in dominant fashion on Tuesday night, topping in-state opponent UDA NMSU by a 6-0 final behind a hat trick from Josh Dolling. The match was the first in the Cup’s more-than-100-year history to feature two New Mexican teams, and was played at Rio Rancho High School.

NM United Announces Signing of Milo Garvanian

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - New Mexico United is excited to announce the signing of defender/midfielder and Albuquerquenative Milo Garvanian, following his graduation from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Garvanian played five seasons with the Tar Heels, making 86 appearances, scoring ten goals, and assisting eleven more.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM At a critical time when LGBTQ+ rights are under attack in the United States, Common Goal, the global impact movement for soccer, is launching a 2023 coalition of clubs from Major League Soccer, the National Women’s Soccer League, United Soccer League, and the Canadian Premier League. The coalition is joining Common Goal’s LGBTQ+ inclusion initiative Play Proud, to fight back against discrimination and promote greater inclusion in soccer and beyond.

Sanchez to Lobos

Everybody is a Lobo! – well, maybe – but one former Grants resident is for sure a Lobo. Shane Douma-Sanchez, former resident of Grants and son of former Grants High School head boys' basketball coach Joseph Sanchez, committed as a preferred walk on to the University of New Mexico Lobos men's basketball team.

Pirates defeat Sartans 10-9

A blustery but sunny day speckled with distant baseball chants that faded in and out with the wind at St. Pius High School was the backdrop for one of the best baseball games of the season for the Grants High School Pirates as they came into St. Pius ranked third in District 5A with a 12-5, 1-0 record while the Sartans were ranked one in the district with a 12-2 record. When the bats were put away the Pirates walked away with a 10-9 win and were the new leaders of their district.
