GCCS Unveils Two New District Activity Buses

On February 21, 2023 Grants Cibola County Schools unveiled two brand new activity buses to be utilized throughout the district. These buses will be used to transport our students to and from many different activities such as athletic events, academic competitions, etc.

Nick Bustos of the Grants High School Baseball Team is this week's Athlete of the Week. Nick, a senior, hit a walk-off homerun which scored three runs in the Pirates’ first game of the season to beat Albuquerque Academy 5-4..

Pirate Wrestling

Three wrestlers from Grants High School participated in the New Mexico Activities Association state wrestling tournament over the weekend. Larry Meador (45-14) a junior wrestling in the 145-pound weight class placed fourth after losing to Ernesto Triste (37-13) of Deming High School by a 7-6 decision. Teammate Manuel Gonzales (40-15), also a junior, placed fourth in the 121pound weight class after a defeat by Adam Abdelijawaed (35-14) of Miyamura High School in the third-place match. Douglas Mitchel went 1-2 in preliminary matches and was unable to place in the top six spots. The Grants team was 20th overall out of 38 teams.

Laguna-Acoma Lady Hawks Number 1 in District 1 2A

The Laguna-Acoma Lady Hawks defeated the Dulce Hawks (19-78, 5-1) on Monday, February 20 in a tie breaker by a score of 54-41 to take first place in district 1-2A. Both teams were 5-1 prior to the playoff. The Lady Hawks finished up district play with a 18-9, 5-1 record and await to play in the district championship game on Saturday, February 25, at Laguna- Acoma High School.
