Boys Basketball Sizzles in the Summer Heat

In a recent question and answer session, Grants High School Head Coach Landon Chavez of the Boys’ Basketball Team summed up his summer program and goals. Could you give us a rundown on your summer tournament season so far? This summer has been great. We finished 6-0 in the Duke City Shootout.

NMAA Board Summary - June 1, 2023

The New Mexico Activities Association’s Board of Directors met in regular session on Thursday, June 1 in the NMAA Hall of Pride and Honor. The Board of Directors elected Mr. Anthony Casados as President and Mr. Martin Madrid as Vice President for a two-year term.
As the summer temps pick up the GHS Boys’ Basketball team has been bringing up the heat on the hard floor as they have been participating in summer camps across the state. Steve Brown has been named the new Grants High School football coach. Brown a former Pirates himself has 16-years’ experience as an assistant football coach and is currently running the summer workouts. 'Football is like life, if you get knocked down you have to get back up – It's the same thing in life – we want to create great young men and women out of this program.' Franklin Romero - CC

After 16 years as an assistant football coach, Grants native Steve Brown has garnered the head coach position of the Grants High School football team. “I just fell in love with coaching and enjoy working with the youth of our community,” said Brown.
