Pirates on 11 Game Win Streak

There’s always one game that’s closer than expected, the Valencia Jaguars rolled into Grants last Friday, April 19, played the Grants High School baseball team for eight innings in one of the Pirates toughest challenges at home.

The Grants Pirates golf team has won 2 of 4 tournaments this spring season and is currently 2nd in the District 5 4-AAAA class. Grants has 2 more normal season tournaments to play in before the big district tournament which is held at Santana Golf Club on May 5th.

The Grants Pirates baseball team are off to a great start in district play after going 2-0 last week in district play with an 112 rout of the Valenica Jaguars (7-11,0-1) on the road on April 2nd followed by a narrow 4-3 defeat of St. Pius High School on April 5th at home.

The lady Pirates tennis team is currently 6-3, 1-0 after a recent win over Hope Christian 5-4 and Manzano 9-0.At the Manzano meet number 1 Alexia Munson defeated Gabriella Mc-Carthy 6-1, 6-0. Number 2 Abriyah Urioste defeated Paige Barney 7-5, 6-2.

This week's Athlete of the Week is senior Izeyah Manzanares of the GHS baseball team, whose recent pitching was crucial to the Pirates victories over district rivals.

Anora Graham of the Lady Pirates softball team with one of her at bats this past weekend. The lady Pirates are currently 3-12 and went 1-2 this past weekend at a tournament in Las Vegas. They will start district play against Valencia High School (18) this Tuesday, April 4. Franklin Romero - CC

After starting the weekend with a 5 AM departure to West Las Vegas high school to play in a tournament, the Lady Pirates softball team went 12 this past weekend. The Lady Pirates lost to East Mountain 11-3 and then defeated Tohatchi 17-1. In their third game they lost a close one to Taos, 12-10.
